Making this biscuit is not tricky at all, it’s like baking your favorite cookies, only this time, you’re going to make it look like number 8. Wibele is just a plain cookie but you can add a twist by using your favorite pastry dip. In our home, we use maple syrup and sometimes, chocolate. HOW TO MAKE SPRINGERLE (RECIPE)

How To Make Springerle (Recipe) –This is another traditional cookie famous in Central Europe especially in countries with German minorities. There is one thing you may find a problem when doing this cookie and that is the mold because we are going to use molds with design. But if you can’t find the molds then that’s alright. Simple mold would be alright, the design is just a bonus but the main thing we must consider here is the taste. On this recipe, we are going to use anise seeds but I tried sesame seeds and the taste was different but gives good taste. Also we are going to use vanilla but I tried maple syrup, it gives different taste as well but as good as using vanilla. You can experiment using the recipe. You can replace the seeds and vanilla with your favorite cookie ingredients. Here is how to make Springerle (recipe):

Ingredients
3 ½ cup all-purpose flour
1/8 cup anise seeds (crushed)
4 eggs (whisked)
1 tsp baking powder
2 tablespoon confectioners’ sugar
2 ¼ cup brown sugar
½ tsp vanilla

Baking Procedure
  1. Grease 4 pieces cookie sheets, scatter with anise seeds, set aside.
  2. In a bowl, mix together flour and baking powder. Mix perfectly.
  3. In another bowl, combine eggs, vanilla and brown sugar altogether. Whisk perfectly until frothy.
  4. Slowly pour flour in the eggs mixture while stirring to form a thick dough.
  5. Scoop dough with your one hand and roll out on floured surface and make it into ¼ inch thick.
  6. Gently sift confectioners’ sugar onto the dough.
  7. Put the mold and press against the dough to create design.
  8. Remove the mold and cut off the excessive dough all around the molded dough. Just repeat the process for all the remaining dough.
  9. Place in the sheets and cover with clean cloth and set aside for 8 hours.
  10. Preheat the oven to 120 degrees C.
  11. Put the dough in the oven and bake until the surface turns light brown, that is approximately half an hour.
  12. Remove from the oven and let cool down.
  13. Store in a sealed container.

HOW TO MAKE ZWIEBELKUCHEN

How To Make Zwiebelkuchen –In Germany, there is a tradition takes place during every fall season when the winemakers open a basinwirtschaft in the barn serving green wine with Zwiebelkuchen for very cheap price. One of the indications that a household started to serve is when there is a straw broom hanging over the doorway. This dish contains onions and bacon which I think are the key ingredients to give reasons why it is best served with wine. To me, the best drink for this dish is the red wine because I am not much of a drinker. In this recipe, we are going to use caraway seed but you can do some experiments by replacing it with anis or sesame seeds, even peanuts will do the trick. Here is how to make Zwiebelkuchen:

Ingredients
2 kilograms of sweet onions (sliced)
4 pieces cooked bacon (chopped)
15 oz. sour cream
¼ cup all-purpose flour
4 eggs (whisked)
½ tsp salt
½ tsp caraway seeds
2 recipe pastry (for 9” si crust pie)

Baking Procedure
  1. Preheat oven to 220 degrees C.
  2. Place the dough in the pizza pan.

  7. Combine all the ingredients together and pour into prepared pizza pan.

HOW TO COOK SAUERBRATEN

How To Cook Sauerbraten –Here is another German traditioal dish. It is  very popular in the Rhur Valley region of the country. I have never been to other regions of Germany but I am sure they even make this dish as well. I tried many versions of Sauerbraten and I can say all of them are worth trying because they are so delicious that you’ll get confused whether you are in United States or Deutschland when eating them. It consists of many ingredients so you may want to  replace some with other ingredients but be careful because you might end up ruining the taste, but why not? It would teach you a thing or two so don’t be afraid experimenting. Even myself messed up with the recipes as well but I found the right one that suits my taste. The process is not tricky at all  but you can’t eat it whenever you want because we will have to marinade it. Here is how to cook Sauerbraten:

Ingredients
1 ½ lb. beef rump roast
1 sweet onion (chopped)
½ cup red wine vinegar
½ cup water
½ tbsp salt
½ tbsp ground pepper
1 tsp brown sugar
5 whole cloves
1 bay leaf

1 tbsp flour
Salt to taste
Ground pepper to taste
2 tbsp oil
5 slices bread  (crumbled)

Cooking Procedure
  1. In a plastice container, combine together beef rump  roast, water, vinegar wine, onions, salt, pepper, sugar, bay leaf and cloves. Mix well.
  2. Cover and marinade for 3 days.
  3. After  3 days, remove the meat from marinade and dry.
  4. Reserve the marinade and set aside.
  5. In a large bowl, combine flour, salt and pepper, mix well.
  6. Add the meat and mix evenly until all the meat is covered with flour mixture.
  7. In a frying pan, heat oil over medium heat.
  8. Fry the beef until golden brown on every side.
  9. Pour the marinade to the pan. Set the stove at medium-low heat.
  10. Simmer until the meat is tender, it s slow cooking so it will take up to 3 hours.
  11. Remove the meat and slice.
  12. Add bread crumbs to the pan and stir while simmering until the gravy is thickened.
  13. Put the meat in a serving plate and pour gravy over the meat.
  14. And serve.
